Day 2 and going strong

It’s day two of my Social Media Detox and I have to say that this is surprisingly easier than I expected (so far).  My production level’s are noticeably higher as well. Not only am I able to concentrate more, but I’m also able to enjoy a relaxing evening without worrying about status updates or tweets clouding what I’m actually doing. I also realized that there were social “games” that I forgot to deactivate for the duration as well (Gowalla, Foursquare) which I took care of this morning. But then came the needing to check on my pet projects… uh oh.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought really. At first, I started wondering about it purely from an analytical point of view. If there were any new fans, any interactions that needed attending to. While my wife and I were out picking up the kids, I mentioned in passing that I may have her check on the multiple fan pages we administer and she informs me that she already has 3 times for me. What. A. Woman! Thanks babe.

Here’s the first possible positive side effect that I’ve noticed. Though I did not have much caffeine today (save for an energy tea around 4pm), I’m surprisingly awake. I’ve had a considerable amount of energy and focus today. I’m sitting here, finishing this post up, watching tonight’s DVR’d episode of 24, and my eyes are wide! Not saying this is completely due to my lack of connection to social networks, I want to give this a few more days before deciding on that, but I do believe that I am noticing a difference. And it’s a good one. Let’s see how tomorrow goes. Until tomorrow!
