First round of tests done – Update on Tash’s Health

UPDATE TIME! Okay. So, just got back from the Doctors office with Tash and here’s what we know. Her tests all came back healthy save for a few. The first thing that I want to note is that we absolutely LOVE Dr. Flattery at The Center for Integrative Medicine. He was recommended by a friend of ours and we couldn’t be happier with his approach. Anyhow, this is what we’ve found:

The tests that were performed on her Thyroid came back “normal”, though slightly higher than he would like to see. So there isn’t anything that needs focused on here. For now. This is a good thing, as we have wanted to see where here TSH was now, compared to the previous tests over the last 15 months. It has slowed down slightly since January of this year, and it will be something we will be revisiting in the future. Dr. Flattery said that for now, it isn’t something that he wants to mess with at this time.

The second test that was performed was Food Allergies. It was a pretty extensive test that was a IgE and IgG based test. We had an MRT test before and it’s funny, you’re either #TeamMRT or #TeamIge/IgG in this realm. So being that we’re 15.5 months into getting Tash tested, we’re Team:

So with that, we’ve found that the only real sensitives that Tash has is a slight Almond sensitivity(so long Almond Milk) and a bit more of a sensitivity to eggs. So Dr. Flattery wants her to stay away from eggs for about 6 weeks. It’s not severe but enough to possibly egg on her headaches (See what I did there?). This is also slightly interesting as the MRT test we had performed two months ago showed Almonds and Eggs as fine but Apples to be a cause for concern. So if any of you have breakfast recipes that are low carb and sans eggs, post em in the comments, because that’d be awesome.

Last test that was performed was a stool sample. As my dear friend Nessa said “No one else has looked at her poop? YOU ALWAYS CHECK THE POOP FIRST” (yes, I totally just quoted you lol). This was a pretty extensive test and the one that I expected the most results from. And honestly, I was half right. Most (probably about 90%) of the things they tested for (Parasites, blood, fat, vegetable and meat fibers, etc) came back clear/normal. So yay for that. But what DID come back is that Tash’s body is not producing Lactobacillus or Enterococcus… at all. Like at all, at all.

The long and short of it is Lactobacillus is a bacteria that converts Sugars to Lactic Acids. That’s kind of an important thing for your body and Tash’s system is like “nope. not gonna do it!” And Enterococcus is also another Lactic Acid bacterium that her body is completely lacking. Not good. So one way of treating this is getting more acidophilus into her system. How we do that is with probiotics high in lactobacillus acidophilus. Oh, and by the way, a lack of enterococcus and lactobacillus can cause headaches. Sooooo there’s that.

20140524_130848Now something that a number of you have suggested is that having her body tested for Black Mold. We brought this up to Dr. Flattery and he is familiar with this. Apparently the testing is pretty expensive but we can begin treating it with Diflucan. He said he would rather treat her for it, and get rid of any fungal anything(including black mold), rather than run an extremely expensive test. So now we have some Probiotics, Diflucan (yay insurance) and drops to help the liver, kidneys and lymphatic system detox, rest and get nutrients targeted directly at them. This is especially important, as he believes her liver is having issues functioning properly.

So, that’s where we are currently. The different probiotics, supplements, etc weren’t astronomical but still, not covered by insurance. Everyone that’s contributed to helping us get Tash back to being healthy, I can’t thank you enough. For those that have also shared the multiple links… again, I can’t thank you enough either. We have started a T-Shirt campaign that is actually coming to a close at the end of this month, but the GoFundMe is still live as well. The initial contributions helped SO much with getting these first round of tests completed. I’ve included both at the bottom and if you do feel so inclined, know that it is much appreciated as we will be going back to see Dr Flattery in two weeks… Thanks for keeping up with our story and if you would like to send Tash a message, please feel free to leave a comment or email us at oddzuki@gmail.com.

Until then…

-K

  1. I’m so glad she is finally getting some real answers!! Her new doctor sounds amazing. Wish we had something like that over this way. Does she really have fibromyalgia or was she misdiagnosed? Good luck on the rest of the process and I hope all the new meds and supplements work 🙂
