Late Nights, Hard Work, Motivation

It’s been a hard days night, and I’ve been workin, like a dog!

That pretty much sums it up.  This past week has been rough.  Great for business, terrible for extra curricular activities. Activities like exercising. My wife has been pretty much out of commission the past week because she apparently got the same “crud” (thanks for naming it Laurie) that the kids had.  And then we picked up a few more accounts with Evince, so our workload increased pretty good, which is a great problem to have! So I learned a hard lesson in my lack of time management skills.

My normal routine is to wake up at 4:30 am, maybe watch a show that I missed the previous night (24, Big Love, Heroes, Chuck, Dexter, etc… you get the idea), check through some emails, do some minor work to start my day a little easier. Get the kids & wife some breakfast, take the kids to school, work from 8 to 3, pick the kids up from school, then finish up the day. On an normal day, I’ll pick back up with work for a little bit in the evening before heading to bed around 10 or 10:30. Not this week though. For the most part this week, I’ve worked until around 1 or 2 a.m. and still was up at 6 a.m. to get the day going. This poses a problem for many things that affect productivity. Two in particular.

Concentration. When you’re constantly focusing on just how tired you are, it makes it difficult to concentrate on the tasks at hand, like work. It brings productivity down. Talking on the phone to clients is a struggle because your brain isn’t firing on all cylinders.

Exercise. Trying to exercise when you already have a lack of energy is a terrible motivator. If you don’t want to exercise, but you still try to, you’re short changing yourself because you’re not going to give your all more often than not. The beautiful thing about last week was that I would exercise, even though I didn’t start out wanting to, and by the time I was about 10 minutes into my normal 30 minute exercise, I was really into it and going strong. That wasn’t the case last night. I was tired. Stupid tired. At about noon, I slammed one of those tiny 6 hour energy drinks (the no sugar kind) and there was an instant rush. But here’s the problem, and this isn’t normal for me. I was alert, but still dog tired. I mean, my eyes were wide open but I was so exhausted still that I could still barely concentrate. It was like that moment where you’re half awake, but still dreaming. And it pissed. Me. Off. I was so grouchy and snappy, you’d think I was an old, crotchety man. By the time it came down to me needing to exercise, I was just too exhausted to actually do the normal 30 minute session. I still ended up doing a 20 minute session but I still felt like I could have made better decisions about my time management.

So, lesson learned, exercise set for today (which also happens to be my daughters birthday… yay for cake!). I’ll post some pictures from the party later on. Keep pushing, keep plugging along. You’ll lose the weight if you stay disciplined.

ne last note, there will be some video blogs coming. I’m going to be introducing product reviews with the first being a review of the Gilette Body Scrubber. Until then, later peeps!
